Anodising is an electrolytic process that produces a thick oxide coating on the exterior of aluminium castings. Anodising converts the surface of the casting, rather than applying a coating.
It takes advantage of the natural oxide film that is formed on the surface of aluminium once it becomes exposed to air. The thin oxide film that is created protects the metal making it more resistant to corrosion. Anodising thickens this natural film, as well as increasing the corrosion resistance of the casting electro-chemically, and provides the casting with a strong transparent coating. Thinner films are ideal for castings that require a decorative finish. Thicker films are better suited for castings that require high durability and corrosion resistance.
Benefits of Anodising:
- Increases the durability and corrosion resistance of castings.
